Olive Oil Waffles with Dark Chocolate Sauce

These olive oil waffles are light, crisp, and golden—made without butter but full of flavour. Drizzle with a quick homemade dark chocolate sauce and serve with a scoop of ice cream for a truly indulgent treat.
Course: Breakfast, Dessert

Ingredients

For the Waffles:
  • 1 cup 150g plain flour
  • tsp baking powder
  • 4 tsp sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup 250ml milk
  • ½ cup 125ml Wilson’s Olive Oil extra virgin
For the chocolate sauce
  • 60 g dark chocolate
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • cup 80ml coconut cream or regular cream
  • Splash of water optional, to thin
To serve (optional)
  • Vanilla or coconut ice cream
  • Fresh fruit or berries

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  2. Crack in the egg, add the milk and Wilson’s Olive Oil, and stir gently until just combined. Don’t worry about a few lumps—resist the urge to overmix.
  3. Heat your waffle iron to a medium-high setting and lightly grease the plates with olive oil.
  4. Ladle in the batter and cook according to your machine’s instructions. You’re looking for a deep golden colour with crispy edges—about 3 to 4 minutes.
  5. While the waffles are cooking, make your chocolate sauce. Add the dark chocolate, maple syrup, and cream to a saucepan and melt over low heat, stirring until smooth. Add a splash of water if the sauce needs thinning.
  6. Serve the waffles hot, drizzled generously with the chocolate sauce and topped with a scoop of ice cream and fresh fruit if you’re feeling fancy.
